Making Music with Young Children, All Levels : In Person Workshop!
Course Prerequisite: None
This in-person workshop is for everyone working with young children, whether you took a workshop with Guitars and Ukes in the Classroom before or you are new to us, and to ukulele. The workshop is free thanks to support from the National Endowment for the Arts, with ukuleles supplied for you by donors who are friends and fans of GITC's local artist advocate, Bruce Robbins! We're excited to support you to make music and share it with the children in your care. They will love it!
Need a uke? Please fill this out and we will bring one for you to the workshop. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WM2WXDK
DATE: August 22, 2026
LOCATION: San Diego County Office of Education, 6401 Linda Vista Road, San Diego CA 92111
PART 1 - Intro Session
TIME: 9:00 - 10:00 am
If you are a total Beginner, please arrive at 9 am. You'll learn to keep a beat, play kazoo, hold your uke, strum, sing, and create simple lyrics for supporting student learning. It's easy, fun, practical, and you'll start to see how this can work in your teaching and caregiving. You are welcome to stay for the continuing level workshop starting right after the intro session. We recommend getting a friend to sign up with you so you can keep the music going together this year!
PART 2 - Continuing Beginner Session
TIME: 10:00 - 11:30 am
If you have already taken one or more workshops with GITC, you’re welcome to repeat your basic learning at 9, or join us at 10 am. We'll expand the circle, do some tuning together, some warm ups that children love, and review OFF/ON aka C/F chords, review G7, add Am and a fun new reggae strum, getting into songwriting to develop early childhood language and early literacy skills. You'll get a chance to team up, get creative, and share.
