**Developmental Ukulele and Guitar for UTK-6 Music Educators**
**Course Prerequisite: You are already a music educator**
If you are an elementary music teacher looking for a sensible, accessible, and painless way to integrate ukulele or guitar instruction into your music classes, this short series is for you! GITC founder and author of the SmartStart Guitar book series (Hal Leonard) and SmartStart Ukulele (Korg), Jess Baron, will introduce you to teaching beginners in open tuning through song-based instruction and harmonic accompaniment that supports student singing and ensembles, while building fine motor coordination, one new skill at a time. Her approach is based on the work of Carl Orff and Zoltan Kodáy, so it allows you to add ukulele or guitar to your existing scope and sequence. The instruments can pair with voice, recorder, keyboards, and of course, xylophones and percussion, and can support learning to read and play rhythms and accompany vocal parts. Student songwriting is another dimension that fits well with music standards through the elementary years.
Each session will last 60 minutes for three consecutive Sunday afternoons. There is no GITC prerequisite except that everyone who enrolls must already be a music educator. The instrumental skills will come naturally to you.
All classes in this series will be taught from 4:00 - 5:00 pm PT / 5:00 - 6:00 pm MT / 6:00 - 7:00 pm CT / 7:00 - 8:00 pm ET.
Sunday April 14 @ 4:00 pm PT
